The 2nd Viking Chess Festival took place at the Lady Anne Middleton's Hotel in York from 13-22 December. There were two GM and one IM tournaments played. The GM-A tournament was due to have Emil Sutovsky playing (which would have given it the same line-up as in 1999), but he was required to play in the Israeli Championship and replaced by GM Peter Wells.
This tournament resulted in a tremendous victory for Scottish GM (and lowest rated participant) Jonathan Rowson.

Report by John Lawson: This event was staged at the Comfort Hotel, Hull, on the weekend of 3-5 November, 2000. The total entry was slightly disappointing, especially since the rent of the Hotel was high and the Congress made a loss. However, the new venue appeared to be pleasing to most of the contestants and the event may continue there next year, though a return to Hymers College is also possible.
